iPod with video conferencing?

June 11th, 2009 by admin

Of course the iPod and the iPod phone that can access the Web or an Internet connection via WiFi or the amazing network connection would be perfect for video conferencing.

However, did you know that someone filed for an iPod video conferencing patent. That does not mean they will obtain the patent however it has been published and you can get a copy at USPTO.gov.

What is interesting about this is that it may not be as useful as you would think. Sitting still with the iPod pointed at you so others can see her face would be very helpful however how many people use their mobile phone sitting down or sitting still. You’re better off using videoconferencing software since you will probably be in front of the computer anyway and you might as well try a free trial of online meeting software to see how it works.

I cannot see videoconferencing software on a mobile device as being incredibly useful if you are going to be walking while using the device because you will need to point the camera at your face but if you are walking and pointing the camera interface it will be horrible for the other viewer. You also need to constantly put the phone to your face to talk unless you have a wireless mic or wired mike is attached to the phone. It remains to be seen how well these work.
