Making the Initial Contact

On arriving for your interview, the designated contact will meet you. It is important to establish eye contact, shake their hand firmly and smile. If there is one thing you do in your interview it is to make a great initial first impression.

This person may be a PA, or receptionist, but they could also very easily be one of the people interviewing you and first impressions are incredibly important. If you are offered a drink, always say yes, and don’t drink this straight away as you can use having a drink to play for time if you are asked a difficult question.

If they make small talk with you, always keep this positive, i.e. if they asked about your journey, always say you found the address ok and don’t give any horror stories about how you found the building as you will appear inefficient and will create a bad impression.
