Being Wrong About the 1099 Tax Form

I have friend who does independent contractor work and I always thought that he never paid taxes cause I assumed he never got a W-2 statement because he doesn’t work for a specific company. Well anyway one night we got into a little argument about it, because I didn’t believe he filed income taxes, well he does. He said he gets the 1099 Tax Form from all the people he worked for stating how much they paid him. Apparently the IRS gets a copy of this 1099 Tax Form as well. So I guess I was wrong and he does file taxes.
