Sinus tarsi syndrome

August 7th, 2009 by admin

Sinus tarsi syndrome is a common problem with pain that is generally on the outside of the ankle joint. It is usually due to one of two causes. One is poor rehabilitation following an ankle sprain. In these cases the ligaments of the sinus tarsi (which is between the two ankle oint bones) were strained as part of the sprain and have not healed properly. The other cause of sinus tarsi syndrome is a flat or pronated foot. This compresses part of the sinus tarsi and this compression, if the forces are high enough can result in pain. To treat this foot orthotics are generally used. Good physical therapy is also needed.
