September 28th, 2009 by admin

Most people nowadays are taking hyaluronic acid supplements. The supplement is taken in order to increase the production of hyaluronic acid (HA) in the body. HA is more commonly referred to as hyaluronan in the medical field and it has several physiological and pharmaceutical uses. It is set up in the extracellular matrix and it is most common in connective tissues that are exposed to stress and pressure on a regular basis like the knees and spinal column, according to the Essentials of Glycobiology The composition of Hyaluronan is a glycosaminoglycan which is a repeating disaccharide of N-acetylglucosamine and glucuronic acid. Most glycosaminoglycans are sulfated but hyaluronan is never sulfated. Sulfated is an uncharged ester of the acid.
