When does Clubfoot must be Treated?

February 16th, 2010 by admin

Something that occurs in about one in a thousand births is the condition called the club foot. What happens in a clubfoot is that the foot is pointing down and inwards. It is something that is always checked for just after the birth. As soon after the birth as the foot is still malleable and moldable the treatment usually needs to be started. Usually the foot is manipulated and stretched and then put in plaster. After a week the plaster is removed the manipulation and stretching and plaster are repeated. This is continued until the foot is corrected. If the foot is too rigid, then surgery is the only option.
