Rochester Apartment Hunting

Since considering moving to New York I have heard some alarming statistics in regards to costs. I knew that it was not going to be cheap but because I was not moving into the Manhattan area I thought that the stats would not be relevant but now I am worried that the Rochester Apartments can be pretty pricey. I did not anticipate that the state could easily hold up two incredible populated cities the way it does and afford to keep people here. What type of comparison am I looking at for the two cities and can I afford to move here on my own?
